Buying an integra, need help!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, new to the forum

A friend of mine is selling his 1999 integra LS, it has about 90K miles on it the front bumber needs some paint, the front control arms are no good but he is going to fix that this coming weekend, the car wont start and my guess is either the battery or the starter, other than that the rest of the car looks ok, it has a rebuilt engine, im interested in buying it but i know nothing of these cars, my previous cars have been a 95 dodge ram 1500 and the one i currently have is a 03 mustang gt, so i know nothing of these cars, he wants around 2500 for it but im sure i can get him down to around 2K or less since id still have to fix the no start problem and have the front bumper repainted, i think it might need tires but im not sure, point is can i get your help on deciding weather or not its worth it

Ill post some pics of the car tomorrow when i go see it so that way you guys get a better idea of what it looks like

Im not sure of any mods the car has but ill get info on all that tomorrow and let you guys know, but for now with what iv said do you guys think its worth it?

Also if there is anything else i should take a look at before actually deciding to buy it or not, things in the engine or stuff of that nature good things and bad things etc etc, thanks guys!

He said he will throw in a turbo kit, or almost the whole kit(its missing the intercooler) ill get more info on that tomorrow aswell

If you guys do think its a good deal any idea on how much it would cost to get it fixed(how much does a starter cost etc etc)

Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really? so these engines are pretty reliable i guess... where would you get the starter from? i went to autozone pep boys and napa and the cheapest was for around 130 with the core charge?

So you think i should buy it?

Ok so u just got back from looking at the car

So it turns out that the title is salvaged(his son wrecked it when he let him borrow it) but everything has been replaced and the engine bay looks like new, he also did a complete rebuild of the engine flushed it out and got it clean again and all that stuff, the car has a transmission from a 99 civic SI, as far as the body goes the front bumber needs to be painted, and some of the paint is peeling under the window molding on the passenger side door, but there are hardly and noticlbe scratches on it, the roof seems a little faded but thats it, he also said that if i buy it for 2500 he would throw in a full exhaust system including the headers, and a turbo kit(which is only missing the intercooler and the fuel pump), the turbo kit is brand new never ever been used. And he is going to replace the control arms and the starter this coming weekend, the tires onit are also new.

so for around 2500 do you think its worth it?

it appears to be a good deal, lol as i was reading i immediately guessed it was a salavaged cuz clean titles don't go 4 that cheap. u said the a/c was removed. do u live in a area that is pretty humid or hot? other than that i think it would be a steal if u can get it down to $2,000. The only problem with salvaged titles is that they are very hard to sell if you purchase one.

its all about online forums kijiji craigslist, no one wants that crap lying around you can find one for $10, get one for $15 out of a j yard

a 99 si tranny is very, very short. be sure that is what you want considering the engine does not rev to 8+ thousand rpm. On the highway you ll be revving over 4k most of the time.

open the oil cap on the head, and with a flash light look inside. this will show you that its been rebuilt and cared for since it should be very shiney and clean.

and post pics !

:: i just noticed you posted a price and some stuff it comes with. the car is worth that in parts and if its not rustic id go for it ! oh but also haggle him, say 2000$ with everything is all you can go for

Yeah he removed the A/C, but he still has all the parts if i want to put the a/c back on and hes giving me those as well. But dont know if ill need it i live in santa fe, NM its mostly mountains and stays pretty fresh most of the time. And yeah i know salvaged cars are impossible to sell but i really dont plan on getting rid of the car, i love the look

Ill do that soon as i go see him again when he fixes that other stuff so i can test drive it. So your telling me the SI tranny isn't very good tranny? i probably wont race it much, but it would be nice to have a good tranny for when i want to punch it, what would a good tranny cost me? from what kind of car?

How do i post pics? iv been trying but cant figure it out lol

And i already have him down to 1900 so ill see how much more i can drop it to

No

Our dealership just sold a MINT GSR for 2900!!! Now thats unusaully low but you can find clean tegs for 3-4K that have zero accidents and in decent shape..for 5K super clean with mods too

2500 for salvaged title, suspect rebuild, missing parts, needs paint...

Your call

I LOVE hondas and I wouldnt take that deal...I feel for the guy but I would part that thing out -- shell for 500-800, motor for 400-500, tranny for 800...but the work of taking it apart, finding buyers ...thats on him

But if you want to put the work in and fix it...I dont think you have the knowledge so it will cost you...better off finding a "clean" runner than a fixer upper I guess is what I am trying to say in your specific case.

Good luck
