Honda issues TSB for third-gear issue, fix is free

Posted May 1st 2008 6:27PM by Damon Lavrinc
Filed under: Recalls/TSBs, Acura, Honda

Honda has finally issued a TSB on the third gear issue that's been plaguing everything from the Civic Si to the Acura TL. According to affected owners, when the manual transmission was in third gear, it would occasionally pop into neutral and occasionally grind into place. Honda originally didn't recognize the problem and still isn't issuing a recall, but they have put out a TSB and are offering to correct the problem free of charge to owners who take their vehicle into a dealership. The documentation for Honda and Acura is now available (PDF warning) and you can hit the jump to see which vehicles are included in the TSB.

Sweet - even if it's for a swapped car they give you the part numbers necessary!

So, would they still offer to fix it free of charge even if it's a swapped car?

I just called up the dealer to find out what I need to do to get the car fixed and they said that i have to drop the car off to them and it is going to take them until june 20th to get the gear set in. But the car has to stay at the dealership while the part gets ordered and comes in. I am going to go into the daler and see if I can just get it ordered from acura since they are the same parts. The honda dealer that I go to owns a acura dealership right next door.

I am sure that they would except my fiance doesn't...well let me rephrase that..WON'T leave the car there. I am going to go into the dealership and see if they car order the part from the acura dealer any faster. (don't know why they would but dealerships suck so I wouldn't surprised). They will give a loaner but she doesn't want to pay for a car that she isn't driving.

I wonder if my dealer can get it done for me, instead of dropping it off at Acura? Might have to look into that.

I actually called the Honda dealer and talked to the parts department and I asked them how long it would take for the part to come in and they said they the part was back ordered until the end of June. I didn't tell that I called before or anything I just asked for the part by the part number so they had no idea that I called before and asked about it. So I am just going to call again at the end of june and see what the deal is.

Does it matter how many miles you have on your car or if it is still under warranty?
