Engine Bay Cleaning

Ok, I have a few questions on Engine Bay Cleaning/Detailing. I try to Clean my Engine Bay every couple of Weeks and wanted to know how other People go about it and see if I can try something new. This is usually how I do it . . . . .

1. Spray down my entire Engine Bay and Motor with a Heavy Duty Degreaser (being carefull of electrical components)

2. Scrub the Engine Bay, Motor, and other various under-hood parts with the Sponge and a 50/50 Simple Green and Warm Water Mixture.

3. Dry everything up with a Clean Cloth.

4. Keep the Hood open for about 30 Minutes to let the Air dry up what I have missed.

It comes out clean and all but I see Engine Bays come out ALOT Cleaner. Exspecialy Red Valve Covers. Everytime I see a Red Valve Cover in a Magazine Photoshoot or Online they always look so damn clean. I can seem to get mine looking that clean. Theres a few dirty spots that I jsut can seem to clean right. I have though about Power Washing my entire Engine Bay to get rid of all the shit I can get to but I get a strange feeling in my stomach (no thats not gas!) when I think about doing it. I dont want to mess anything up.

If anyone can give me some input on how they clean there Engine Bays and what they use to do it that would be awesome!

I think I know what Im gonna do now to clean everything up. Once Im done Cleaning Im going to go over everything with either Tire Shine or Armor All Wipes just bring the Shine out. The only thing I still cant clean is my CTR Valve Cover. There are some dirty black greasy marks in some spots that my Simple Green Mixutre just cant seem to get out. Im also going to try Hosing things down with a Hose and Jet Attatchment to get all the unreachable gunk out.

I usually wash mine every other car wash depending on how much I drove it. I basically just spray it down with simple green and let it soak the take a bug sponge and soapy water and scrub around and spray it off. The tire shine works if you wanna do it for a show but it sucks after cause dirt sticks to it.

Yea thats right. I forgot how annoying Tire Shine can get when dirt starts to stick to it. Ill try what you said and also touch everything up with Armor All Wipes. Im also going to take some Mothers Polish to my Cusco Catch Can and ITR Strut Bar to shine them up some more Thanks Nubz

Even though I have POS engine in the car, I'm anal about having it clean. I power wash the engine every single time I wash the car. The Carwash here is really cool, they use SimpleGreen in the Power wash system for the engine de-greasing option, along with warm water in there system. So I just hose it down, and let it sit while I wash the rest of the car, when it's time to rinse off all the saop from car, I handle the engine bay while I'm at it! for the local Carwash!

I was the same way with my EG.Every car wash i would spray the engine bay down.I had people drooling over how clean it was.If you have access to a air compressor i also after cleaning the engine i would spray the whole compartment down with stuff like tire shine.Let it soak in a little then take a cloth and your air line and blow off the extra tire shine stuff and wipe it down. You still have the shine and it doesn't have all the wetness to it.Dirt really didn't cling to it that bad.

I dont recommend actually washing down the engine bay with water, i dunno about where you guys live but around my area cars that were engine washed for years end up having a rusty engine bay, bolts and brackets all completely rusted. personally i use wd40 to de grease and de rust, then use a detail spary on the metal to make it shine then armor all on all the rubber hoses and silicone tube, gets everything shiney

1. wrapp all electrical parts with plastic bags

2. spray Dr. Mecanico all over the engine bay inlcuding under the hood

3. make some soapy water at the time the degreaser run through all the engine bay and srub with a sponge including under the hood too

4. power wash or just a simple hose with a jet

5. dry it with the Kanebo leather cloth

6. spray with WD40 all over the engine bay

7. take out the plastic bags

sorry for the long post
