Well, first was the wheel's and tires. I bought it with the stock wheels. And it already has a new transfer case and alternator.

DSMs have a bad rep for being unreliable, but that's only because they are neglected. So within the next month or so I'll tear apart the top end and clean and replace most everything. Head gasket, studs, possibly lifters, complete top end gasket kit, timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump. I'll take the valve cover and exhaust manifold and sand blast em to look nice. And I'll send the head in to get everything cleaned/checked, studs put in for the exhaust manifold and the cast lines taken off the ports.

After that I'll end up doing the clutch. ACT 2100 kit and an ACT Chromolly Flywheel. Then it's full 3" exhaust, O2 housing, FMIC kit with hard piping and BOV. Then WAY down the road prolly 14B or maybe 16G with supporting mods.

Sounds great man!! I love those 4G63's all dressed up!!! I bought a lot of dress up stuff for my Evo right in the US eventhough the car was never made there. Basically same engine though. Mine had a modified Big 16G. Here's a picture of what under the hood looked like before I sold it. Might spark a few ideas for you. If you need any info on where I got some of the stuff, don't hesitate to ask.

Haha! Yea! I guess that's what comes in the Evo. If I see any knocking around around here in the Bahamas, I'll let you know. We have tons of Evo's here!

Nice pick up. My friend used to have one of those. It was a beast. Putting down about 525 at the wheels.

I wouldn't worry too much about the top end on 95s, as the bottom end is what usually kills the 95-96s. In 97 it got better, and they slowly got better and better till 99 when they stopped making the Eclipse.

If you want to spend money on fixing up the motor, then I would definitely look into getting the oil holes enlarged for the crank, as that was one of the main culprits people figured to cause the infamous "crank walk" on the 2g DSMs.

BTW, 2900lbs ACT clutches don't help either... all that force needed to push on the pressure plate just to release the clutch... putting strain on the already weak thrust bearings...

And also, why only go 14B if you plan on upgrading turbo? On a 4G63, it's either go big or go home, and a 14B is pretty much not even that much bigger than the stock T25 that comes on the 2g DSMs. At LEAST go 16G like you had planned man. Those things generally don't die.

In any case, good luck with the build!

Well, being a college student and having limited space, I can't afford to do any bottom end work. Not that I don't agree with you. But if something does arise, I'll decide how to deal with it. But for now I'll just hope it doesn't!

Yea you've got a point with the clutch/ pressure plate. Maybe I'll just do an OEM clutch and a lighter flywheel. That's next summer though.

And the reason I said 14B is because I've got a friend back home with a junked 93 GSX. The rear end was backed into by a trash truck. haha So the front end is fine. 127k miles. So I can get the turbo and maybe even the head and manifolds for free. Because he's already got the money from insurance and bought it back. And 14Bs can pump up to 20 pounds which is perfect for what I'm lookin for. Although it would be nice to crank it up if I wanted. IDK I'll have to do some research and see.

Yeah you can turn the 14B up to 22psi if you wanted.

But that's the whole mentality of DSM guys, using the smallest possible anything and cranking the shit out of them.... sometimes it's no wonder why things break.

Their philosophy? "That's what the intercooler is there for isn't it?"

Sure, yeah, it's there to cool the air charge from the turbo, but what good is it if the air gets cooled to like, ambient air temp, or just barely cool to the touch, versus actually using a bigger turbo, so that it's pumping out cool charged air, then as it goes through the intercooler, it actually gets chilled!

You don't see/hear Evo guys blowing up their cars every week like you do DSM guys, and why is that?

If you look under the hood of Evos, most of the time the owners actually have a bigger than stock turbo there, and/or twin/triple plate clutches so as to not put extra stress on the crank/thrust bearings while still have the same torque holding capacity.

By no means am I a DSM expert, but I've been around the local DSM crowd and the local DSM guru enough to figure these things out.

I believe he used to be of the prior "kind" of tuner, and later on decided to go the later route, and I think he has gone sort of back to the old ways of using a smaller turbo but boosting the hell out of it, but with the addition of using meth-injection to cool the air charge as well, so it sort of works out for him.... but his main "go really fast" toy has become a Honda crotch rocket.

Anyway, just some things I picked up from the DSM guys over the years that I wanted to pass on to you, so that you could make better decisions with your money, as you said you are a broke college student, and this should help you figure out what to buy/do with the car.

Good luck.
