From my limited ARP experience I know that you have to torque them down a little more than what the book says....also if your head is lifting your not torqued down enough

As far as the overheating....block "guards" are garbage...most SOHC "pin" there motors and it works very well...as a cheap bandaid...if you keep your setup run a better radiator, new t stat and better fan setup.....couldnt hurt and will help anyway

try running a 1.3 bar radiator cap

i found that to be the source of my cooling issues

i blew my stock radiator on the dyno
then swapped in a friend's koyo radiator
he only had a 0.9 bar cap on it, the car would easily heat up more than normal if boosting in high gear
stock honda's are usually 1.1 bar caps, unfortunately, i didn't have a type a/f/s 1.1 bar cap, i ordered one from honda (still hasn't show up), and i'll eventually be getting a 1.3 bar cap
so i got a cheapo o'reillys 1.1 bar cap, it worked pretty good but it still couldn't handle extended extreme use
i think i ended up blowing my head gasket this past friday

anyway, i definitely saw the benefits of a higher pressure radiator cap
very gay how most of major issues boiled down to a radiator cap

it was the block guard....sorry i haven't got back to you guys.the wholes on the block guard did not match the gasket,so it busted on the first cylinder and cracked two cylinder walls..when it overheated doing a new build as we speak different compression and other mods....... soon i post new pics and new dyno sheets...but its hard in the midwest compered to florida. much more reasonable prices and machiningand i can't for get my peeps Javie tech and Bori from deliriem motorsports in kissimmee....

check the thermastat. it could be sticking an not alowing any coolant to flow thru. id check there first, it happens often, it happened in my subaru and my old honda. i changed the thermastat and it never overheated again.

and if he wasnt getting a good seal between his head and block... dont u think it would be pumping out white smoke and running like crap?
