96 Civic EX tranny issues

Hey there everyone, i'm new to the forum, and I have a serious problem that i hope you all can help me with. I have a 96 Civic EX, so it had the D16Y8 in it. I spun a rod bearing driving home from work and decided to swap out the engine for a JDM D15b. This car is an auto, and i had to swap over the flex plate and torque converter/flywheel combo onto the D15b. I was told all D-series trannys bolt up to D-series engines. But when i went to bolt the D-16Y8 auto tranny up to the D15b, it cracked the bell housing. Was i just to rough with it? I've never worked on a front wheel drive transmission before so i wasn't sure. It was really close to being completely together, maybe 1/8 inch when it cracked so. I don't know if i just didn't have stuff lined up. I could really use some help guys, thanks in advance!!

ok maybe someone can answer the new question, i believe it was the torque converter that was wrong, is it possible the torque converter/flywheel was too big? It seems almot like it was hitting not allowing the tranny to bolt up flush with the engine
