Hey
About sometime in late Aug., the bearing off my GS-R differential exploded for some odd reason. The shim for the ball bearing covering the balls exploded and caused nothing but chunks of metal in my transmission.
Did some research and investigation and came across Evans Tuning 3-Part "How to swap a B-Series Differential" video. (Very great and resourceful video might I add) Watched the vid a numerous amount of times before I went to work on it.
I eventually opened up the trans and went to work (removing reverse gear selector, gear changer, base, counter and mainshaft) and eventually removed the diff. To my surprise not only was the bearing damaged, but the differential had a crack in it. I went online and purchased an '00 USDM ITR LSD.
Once again I followed the video step by step and installed everything the way it was meant to be. This past sunday my friends and I threw my transmission back on the car, went to test it out and it does not engage 1st or 2nd, however 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse engage with no issues.
I need help from any tranny guru's to see what this may possibly be. I cannot figure it out. I currently have the transmission open and looking over everything I did.
There was a portion of the video (part 3) when the instructor was stressing the position of the shifter rod must be in the middle before installing the gear selector and base. I shifted the rod through all three positions to see and understand what he was speaking of. Left it in the middle (second position) but still nothing is happening.
Does anyone have any insight as to what may be causing my tranny to not engage 1st or 2nd gear?
Thanks for any help in advance.
