cool. you'll probably have to replace the IaT sensor too.

could this problem also be caused by a bad ground? so far ive followed all the power and ground wires i could find and they all seem to be going to good areas...unless im missing something. the tps is reading 0.0V which either means its bad or i have a bad ground...let me know. and if it could be a ground issue is there anywhere in particular i should look?

the tps should read .05v with the key on at wide open throttle. on my car it was a red wire where I had to measure the voltage. probably red for your car too. it may be un calibrated and that's why it reads low voltage
check all your grounds with a voltmeter.
touch te red lead to the + post on the battery and then with the black lead, tilt ouch the - batt post and check what voltage is. then touch the black lead to all the grounds. they should read whatever the batt read.
grounds I know of are 3. valve cover to frame. batt to frame as transmission to frame.

Thats an awesome DIY ill try that also i have work at 2...i tested the harness that goes to the TPS because thats what Ehow said you can do to see if its getting proper voltage. It was reading 0.0V...i dont really know what that means i should do to make it get the right voltage. I checked all the grounds except the tranny because i dont know where it is. I also replaced the coolant temp sensor that also didnt do anything. but like i said before the ECU was throwing codes for the coolant temp sensor and intake temp sensor...now that i replaced the coolant sensor it isnt throwing any codes at all now...im going to test the TPS one more time the way you said to do it and ill see what it says

ok so i tested the TPS i did more than i needed probably but i wanted to check all the blocks lol

Key was turned to on position but not running and the ground was the - on the battery terminal.

This is with the harness not plugged in (like EHOW.com said to test it)

A/C red to ground
closed- 0.0 V
open-0.0 V
A/C Yellow to ground
Closed-0.0 V
Open- 0.0 V (slowly dropped from 0.05-0.00)

D/C red to ground
Closed-32.5
open 32.5
D/C Yellow to ground
closed-5.0 V
open- 5.0V

Then i plugged in the harness to the TPS (like you had said to test it)

A/C red to ground
Closed 0.0 V
open- 0.0 V
A/C yellow to ground
closed- 0.0 (slowly from 0.05-0.00)
open- 0.0 (also slowly from 0.05-0.00)

D/C red to ground
closed- 0.461
open-5.57
D/C yellow to ground
closed- 5.0
open- 5.0

your ect sensor was bad then if the code went away. you might want to replace the iat sensor as well as it's probably bad too.
are you getting a code for the tps sensor too?
if you have no power at it at all. then it's really broken or the wire giving it power has an open.
with the key on, engine off, you should have some power reading at te red wire.
you can try with the key on, engine off. open the throttle plate to wide open throttle. you should definitely see some voltage at WOT.
if you see voltage at WOT then the sensor is way out of spec. if you see no voltage at WOT then the sensor is bad or there is an open somewhere in the tps circuit.
specs are the .5v with key on engine off and 4.5v at WOT

It read.461 at closed throttle and 5.51 at open throttle and that was touching red and ground..is that still in ok specs or does it need replaced...that's also with the harness connected to the tps with key on engine off

you need to test it with the harness plugged into the sensor man.
are you getting cel for the tps? have you replaced IaT sensor.
what other cels do you have?

yeah i tested it with the harness plugged in thats when i got the readings on my last post. (.461 at closed throtle and 5.51 at open throttle) and no i didnt replace the IAT because i wasnt sure if i needed to since the ecu isnt saying anything about it anymore. and im not getting a CEL anymore unless i drive it for a while and its just for the speedometer cuz its not hooked up (im missing the part that plugs into the actual guage)

then jut leave your tps alone if you're not getting a cel for it.
.461 is in spec because spec is .4___.
however 5+v at wot. haven't seem that before. but if the car drives fine and there's no other cels besides the speed sensor. then just leave it at thr.

ok i ordered the IAT sensor it will be here tomorrow around 9 am. its going straight in. the TPS doesnt go about 5 volts at WOT it goes to 4.61 or something close to that so i dunno its still in spec just a little low. if replacing the IAT doesnt fix the high idle then ill try adjusting the TPS into perfect specs. let you know tomorrow! lol this is getting so rediculous
