OZredNSX's restoration/build timeline.

Been meaning to do a build or timeline of my build of the crx for quite a while just so i an remember the drastic changes my car has been through.

Been through quite a few of phases for the past couple years. Now it has a full paint job interior/exterior/engine bay, truck bedliner undercoat underneath the car and all fender wells, full wire tuck inside and out with nylon sleeve and heatshrink, redid all the brake lines with SS and AN anodized fittings, tucked all brake lines, 15/16 mc with stock brake booster, 11" slotted rotors and NSX brakes all around, major work in the engine bay, and the list goes on.

The car did not hit one shop where all the work was done in my garage including paint

Ill start off with some history of the car.

White 1991 CRX HF, i know not the best year but since it was a HF and i dug my nails into the project way too far to turn back to sell and hunt for a mint 88 to build.

Car was originally purchased as a daily driver/commuter for my father in 2002. The following year the car was passed down to me when i started gaining interest in building it aside from my nsx.

It started off as a basic 1.5L 5speed white crx with blue interior. Although i dont really have any pictures of it in its original form i do have some throwback pictures.

my MUGEN/VIS/DISGRACE body kit phase. I was convicced to go with a fiberglass VIS mugen replica kit by my cousin who installed and did all the work at the time. Probably the worst investment in my life. It was primered white, held on by wood screws, cracked, and rattled everywhere.

within a month or two i dumped the kit and was actually contemplating on sourcing an authentic mugen kit. No luck so i went back to OEM bumpers

b16a/coilovers/strut braces/momo wheel w/ NRG qr/MR5s/carbon zc hood

some more goodies. Carbon center console/ carbon PWJDM lip/ brand new EDM wing/ Stromung exhaust which i restored

Well since i cant post any day by day updates ill just post certain parts of the car that have been tackled such as a post about all my suspension work, then brakes, then engine bay, and so on.

so.... Since the first real task i ever did on my rex before i even planned on doing a complete rebuild was to work on my brake setup.

Since the car had some tiny calipers, rotors, drums, and weak master cylinder i had all sorts of plans for my brake setup. Also I HAD to change my front knuckles/spindles because HF models have tiny knuckles and different spline count. So if i ever needed to swap out some b series axles i would always have to purchase some custom ones. So i also had to figure what type of front brakes and knuckles i was going to run.

Originally contemplated just doing a drum to rear disks brake upgrade from a DA. I had everything ready for the brake up grade which included DA trailing arms with calipers and rotors and for the fronts some SiR Knuckles and brakes since they utilize bigger calipers and would not have to do some sorta hybrid with civic ex knuckles and other calipers.

original HF parts

knuckles and axles..SiR vs HF

Look at that tiny axles output shaft

new b series axles

Removal

And here is where everything changes...
Well i pretty much had 90% of what i needed to do for the swap except for one rear caliper from the DA trailing arms.

Got a sick deal all 4 NSX calipers from a fellow nsx'er...Couldnt resist the opportunity on trying some 2 piston nsx calipers. Although i had no idea what i needed or any knowledge of this brake swap i wanted to figure it out myself.

And now i also purchased 96 ITR 4x114 conversion for a great deal with wheels as well.

here are the parts...

calipers painted black with brush on high temp paint

didnt like black so i went with red brushed on paint

Well long story short...I go through a month trying to figure out the 4x114 swap, what calipers i needed to run, how am i going to fit the calipers, what master cylinder and booster combo, new prop valve.

End up JDM ITR booster and 15/16 MC.
SS fastbrake brake lines F/R
Fast brake 11' slotted rotors
OEM Nsx pads
4040 prop valve

Within this month long period the car was pretty much on stands and had very little brake power. Everything was installed and ready to go but the bleeding process was not working out too well.

Basically with no answer from any forums i decide to restore everything that is brake related.

Took aparts NSX calipers completely
ARP extended Studs all around
Purchased brand new OEM seals for calipers
Brand new Master Cylinder off a Civic EX from fastbrakes
Stock CRX booster...for a more firm pedal since the integra booster was
doing all the work and i wanted more response from the brake pedal. Also it let me run any front strut bar.
Brand new OEM booster vacuum hoses and vavle

Sandblasted all arms
Sandblasted all calipers
Powder coated all arms and calipers
Rebuilt ground up.

Pictures of parts sandblasted and powdercoated red

mock up...

Finished product with new coilovers (Progress Sport)

another teaser

Haha pretty much identical. They're both 2 piston calipers and have the same caliper bracket. But I believe the piston sizes are different and clamping pressure as well. Also NSX calipers have fins along the body of the caliper to dissapate heat but I doubt I'll ever need that in the Rex.

Btw I thought you went with the spoon calipers?
