K-Series into EG FAQ's

This post in is being put together to inform and educate members of this board about K-series swaps into the EG chassis.

Heres the way things will work...... Members should feel free to ask any questions that apply to the swap or a K series motor. Once the question has been answered both the question and answer will be posted in this original post. The the posts will be deleted to keep the thread clean..... simple enough????

So let the fun begin.... ill start filling in some basics as i think of them.......

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. What do i need to swap a K-series into my EG?

There is a large list of components needed to swap a K into EG. And here they are.....

Complete K-series swap
custom axles or hybrid K/B axles
P&P wiring harness
modified ecu
custom motor mounts
custom fuel lines
aftermarket FPR
aftermarket fuel rail
custom clutch lines
K series shift box and cables
Karceps kit (allows for clean installation of the shift box)
K into eg header
aftermarket intake
shifter linkage clips
B/D series coolant temp sensor and fan switch
radiator hose insert (to mount temp an fan sensors)
throttle cable (gsr with gsr bracket, or ep cable)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. What are the differences between the various K-series motors?

K20A---- JDM ITR/CTR motor ---- i-Vtec 220hp@8000/152LB-FT@7000
CR= 11.5:1 Displacement= 2.0L
6 speed transmission with LSD and multiple synchronizing cones for all gears.
The K20A cams are also more aggressive than the k20a2 cams (Type S) and the motor has a larger intake manifold.

K20a2 ---- Acura RSX Type S motor --- i-Vtec 200hp@7400/142lb-ft@6000
CR= 11.0:1 Displacement= 2.0L
6 speed transmission with NO LSD.

K20a3 Acura base RSX and civic SI ---econo i-Vtec 160hp@6500/141lb-ft@4000
CR= 9.8:1 Displacement= 2.0L
5 speed transmission with no LSD.
The K20a3 does not use the conventional high lobe vtec. Instead it runs an economy vtec for better gas mileage but does still use VTC.

K24a1 Honda CRV motor ----- econo i-Vtec 160hp@6000/162lb-ft@3600
CR= 9.6:1 Displacement= 2.4L
5 speed transmission with no LSD.
The K24a1 does not use the conventional high lobe vtec. Instead it runs an economy vtec for better gas mileage but does still use VTC.

K24a2 Acura TSX motor ----- i-Vtec 200hp@6800/166lb-ft@4500
CR= 10.5:1 Displacement= 2.4L
6 speed transmission with no LSD.

K24a4 Honda Element/Acura accord motors --- i-Vtec 160hp@5500/161lb-ft@4500
CR= 9.7:1 Displacement= 2.4L
5 speed transmission with no LSD.
The K24a4 does not use the conventional high lobe vtec. Instead it runs an economy vtec for better gas mileage but does still use VTC.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. What cars can a K-series engine be put in?

Right now, motor mount kits are available for the 88-91 civic/crx, 92-95 civic,96-2000 civic, 94-01 acura integra, and the 01-03 civics.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Where can i buy my K series motor???

You can get k motors from respected sites like hmotorsonline.com or others like it. Also, search this board as well as other K series boards. Sometimes u can get the best prices when buying from other people who have totaled their cars, or bought a motor and decided against the swap for one reason or another. Ebay is an option.... but in all cases beware scammers... as with any other motor or purchase.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. How hard is a k series into EG swap???

Well, in all fairness, it depends on the installer. While harder than a B series swap, i think most people with general knowledge about other swaps should not have to hard of a time completing the swap. People that have never done a swap before might feel very overwhelmed, but with the proper preparation time and research it can be achieved with anyone with a mechanical know how. IMO, one of the hardest past of the swap is gathering all the little things needed to complete it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. How much modification needs to be done to get the K series to fit in my EG???

Actually, much less than most people think. The biggest chassis modifications are really the removing of the passenger side motor mount, the drilling of new mount holes, the removal and relocation of the radiator mounts, and the cutting out of the floor in order to fit the karcepts kit. Nothing really to hard, as long as you take your time and double check your moves.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. How much will it cost to do a K series swap???

Genaraly, to do the job right, plan on spending $7000 from start to finish. If going with an R motor, think around $10.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

k20a is like 5500 plus shipping k20a2's are cheaper you can find them for under 4000 if you look around also look into the k24 as it produces more torque and those can be found even cheaper there's alot of options out there but be ready to lay out a good amount of cash as to where you can find one try
hmotorsonline
import auto salvage
password jdm
you can also look around at your local salvage yards if you are interested in a k20a2 or k24 as they are usdm motors

Just gotta look for good deals... i got my A2 with everything(axles/shift cables/shifter/ecu/cat with sensors ect. for just $3300 SHIPPED.... haha, alsmost the same price as a gsr motor.... the expensive parts of the swap is buying the things that going to get the motor into the car and running, not the swap itself.....
