Not many people (specially on this forum) will ever suggest to go with something generic, or "off brand", with the exception of an intake... Honestly, its just a metal tube... AEM, Injen, ebay special, ect... All of them are basically the same design... So Id go on eBay and get a cheapy cold air for around $40, and buy a K&N filter... You honestly dont need to pay for AEM...
The difference between a ram air is, with ram air, it possitions the filter so that it sits higher up in the engine bay, so its not as effectitive as a cold air since its sucking in hotter air... (for an engine colder air is always better and means more HP)
A cold air intake poositions the filter so that it sits down just in front of the pass side wheel, and it sucks in colder air... Now there is a downside to this, if you drive in a big puddle and suck water up, it can hydrolock your engine! But AEM does make something called a by pass valve that will counteract this... Its $40 and will fit on any intake (they come in varying sizes in diameter)...
Right now im running an eBay cold air intake as a ram air (theres a down pipe that I took off) only because I live in Louisiana (rains alot) and I dont have a by pass valve... I dont have a K&N filter yet tho, just never got around to getting one... But the performance is good, and the sound it made when I first installed it was amazing! I didnt have VTEC back then, but it used to howl when I got on it... I loved it! And now that I do have a VTEC engine and a new exhaust, the sound is sick!
