A few questions regarding wiring up VTEC with a DX harness!!

Hey all...

I have a 99 DX and I added a 98 D16Y8.

I have an '00 P2P ECU (Wannabe you kick ass bruh) and my DX harness. I already made wires for the VTEC solenoid and the oil pressure switch.

How do I move the pins as its stated in the following pictures?
http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/wiring/wiring.99-01.jpg
http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/wiring/...-01_b-plug.jpg

Can I ADD pins to the VTEC and Oil Press. wires so I can connect them to the harness plugs?

Well the ECU works, but I gave up on it for the day. I ran the wires for solenoid and oil pressure, and just connected the solenoid one to ECU.

Car still only revs to 2000RPM's before it starts to die off. Giving up on it for the day, going to hook it up to a scanner and go from there.
Too much work for it being my birthday.
:party2:

If anyone has anything they'd like to add, it would be greatly appreciated.

i could be wrong but i believe the wiring harness from 96-98 and 99-00 are different, one is obd2a and one is obd2b, did you get the jumper harness? or did you swap harnesses? if not that could be one problem.

They are different, but im using a 99-00 harness with a 99-00 ECU.

The knock sensor is not connected I believe. Could that be causing the problem?

Maybe but I don't think so, my knock sensor isn't connected and its fine.

theres a white piece on top that holds the clips in, pull that up the you need either a depining tool or a tiny flat head screwdriver, one from a glasses repair kit works best. then you push the retaining clip up and pull out the wire and move it. just cut the other wire or pull it out of the clip completely. as for the second part i didnt have to do that on my swap so i dont know.

-1999 DX Hatch
-1998 D16Y8
-5sp. Y7 TB
-2000 P2P ECU
-Stock harness
-H23 Knock sensor
(not sure if connected on harness)

I got the car fired up but it wouldn't rev past 2000. I assumed it was the TPS and MAP cables switched, but I couldn't switch them back because the cable was too short. I extended it and switched them, and the car was revving fine. You guys dont know how good it felt. I have both VTEC Solenoid and Oil pressure cables ran, but only VTEC solenoid connected. THAT IS THE ONLY PIN SWITCH I DID ON THE HARNESS. Do I need to repin anything for the Y8 IACV?

I took out for a test drive after not having a car for a month and when it would get to ~5000RPM, the car would not go any further and would lower. It ran fine pretty much, but that was the only problem.
Also, none of the hoses from the IACV are connected, but I heard they aren't necessary.

Talk to me Jessie, somethings not looking right brother..

-P0108 Manifold Absolute Pressure Circuit, High Input Open in MAP sensor circuit, MAP sensor, ECM/PCM

-P1508 Idle Air Control Valve circuit failure IAC valve, IAC valve circuit, ECM

-P1259 VTEC System Malfunction VTEC Solenoid valve, Open or short ni VTEC solenoid valve circuit, VTEC pressure switch, Open or short in VTEC Pressure switch circuit, ECM/PCM

-P0325 Knock Sensor (KS) circuit malfunction Open or short in Knock Sensor (KS) circuit, Knock Sensor (KS), ECM/PCM

-P1607 ECM/PCM Internal Circuit Failure A

-P0141 Secondary Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit malfunction (sensor 2) Open or short in Secondary HO2S (sensor 2) heater circuit, ECM/PCM

-P0122 Throttle Position Circuit, Low Input Open or short in TP sensor circuit, TP sensor, ECM/PCM

Holy fuck.. Thats all I have to say.. I dont understand the secondary o2 sensor code because it is brand new, I just bought it. So any more tips? lol..

I dont think the knock sensor cable is connected on the harness itself. Is the Y8 one in a different spot than the Y7 harness?

The knock sensor was causing a short.. The car is working now, but I still have the idle and o2 sensor problem.

Ill create a DIY on putting in a Y8 with a Y7 harness.

Mods, can this go into the 6th gen FAQ?

WIRING UP VTEC IN A 6th GEN CIVIC USING A DX/LX HARNESS

Parts Necessary:
-Crimpers/butt connectors/1/4" heat shrink or solder/soldering gun/1/8" heat shrink
-1/4" wire loom with zip ties and black electrical tape
-OBD2 pins from a spare OBD2 harness. If you are doing/did a 5spd swap, depin the D plug pins/wires, and use those. Just be sure to cut them back far enough so you can solder/crimp onto it to extend it. DO NOT use OBD1 as they have a completely different style of pin.
-16g wire. 20' would be fine.
-1x O ring crimp on connector for ground.

_____________

http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/wiring/wiring.99-01.jpg <--- CLICK
-Do the 3 wire to 2 wire conversion on the IACV. You can get the 2-wire connector at any junkyard from EGs, EKs, and DC4's. I have some for $5 shipped.

-Extend your MAP sensor connector about 5" with 16g wire and connect it to the MAP sensor on the throttle body.

-Find the orange wire from IACV that you arent using anymore on your harness near the plug and remove it.
It is pictured here:
http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/wiring/...-01_b-plug.jpg

-Use this picture to guide you on removing it. Be careful.
http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/wiring/...in_removal.jpg

-Move B6 to B23 as stated for the IACV.

-Move B15 to B12. This wire will be for your VTEC solenoid. On your VTEC solenoid, connect the GREEN wire to the orange on the harness. If you dont have the original plug (as most wont) you'll either need to find a 1 pin round plug, and use it to wire it in, or be uber ghetto, and use a female spade connector, and cover it up/keep it in place with electrical tape.

-Run a 16g wire from the VTEC Pressure switch to the ECU, and add an OBD2 pin to it. Then insert it in socket 10 on connector "C" (see the picture above to see where 10C is at). Ground the other wire onto the frame somewhere. The battery ground is a good spot if you dont care about wires showing (or just do a good job hiding it). The upper wire should run to the ECU, and the lower should be the ground.

-Crimp/solder 16g to the end of a single wire, round style plug for the knock sensor behind the motor (You can use a round, 2 wire plug like used for a IACV or VTEC pressure switch. Just make sure you connect the correct wire. On a 2 pin plug, it should be the top wire). Run it to the ECU and put an OBD2 pin on it and insert it socket 3 on connector "C".

-Wrap ALL wires with the wire loom. Tape up the ends with black electrical tape, then add a zip tie on each end so it doesnt come off with heat. Also, add zip ties throughout the loom so the wires dont come out.

This is all thats necessary to wire up VTEC using a DX/LX harness.

Id like to give a big thanks to EJ6Civic27 for helping out with this write-up and 96swpdEK for providing a few of the links.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to PM me or EJ6Civic27.
