tEhNgUyEn can someone tell me why he had to trim the dust boot and bump stop? If i plan on buying some ground controls with koni shocks would the install be just like this? also would i have to have a spring compresser for this if i dont plan to use my stock shocks?
It is recomended when using stock struts. I'm not sure if it applies to Koni.
I wouldn't think so. The compressor is only needed with stock springs. If you have new struts and GC springs, just slide the spring sleeve over the strut and install from there.

evil_ek there is a much easier way to do this...you dont have to not touch the strut bolt..you can actually undo that one and just let the strut shoot out the bottom and save having to use the spring compressor..if you guys want to see pics i can hook you up the the how to i use...from CC.
Yeah, if you want to be ghetto about it...

KoolMikeSki Nice write up...I just did the same thing yesterday... I had G/C's with KYB AGX's (1st version about 7 years old lol) but both my front shocks were blown.... I had to put the stock shocks back on with the G/C's.
Glad you appreciate it.

I've seen that one, and I gotta say, if you plan on reusing the stock shocks, i would never even consider doing it that way... the chances of damage when it shoots down are just way too high. personally, when i did my suspension I took off the shocks, and the top piston nut was so rusted I couldnt get that off, so i just took the whole shock assembly to a shop and had them get those nuts off for like 30 bucks... was a piece of cake... and of course, putting it all back together is so much easier than taking it all back apart, damn rusted bolts own me...

wouldnt i need to use a spring compressor for my old struts to take out the dust boot and bump stop. Or do new ones come with konis?

So you don't have problems with the stock shocks and coil-overs? How much did you drop your car?

I've heard that some people don't change the stock shocks and they blow them.

Correct. They are rubber rings that go over the strut so when you slide the coil sleeve over the strut, you get a snug fit. No loose or unessessary movement.

One quick question. Does it mess up the camber at all or require a camber kit by doing a drop the way you did it?
Great tutorial BTW.

It all depends on the condition of the stock struts, if they are on their last leg and you drop the car like that they wil not survive but if they are decent they will be fine.

Camber wise the lower you go the more necessary it will be you want to do a 4in drop and not expect to hear your tires screeching when you are driving in a straight line forget it.

I know this thread is old on posts, but how did you get the back struts off? Mine can't make it over the LCA because of the stupid brackets on the strut where they bolt. I can't compress it enough to get it off and I have no idea how I will get the new ones to go on.

Any advice?
