Thumbs up DIY: Carbon Fiber Cluster Faceplate/Bezel

Was bored today with all the poring of the rain. After driving home, kept looking at my CR-V Cluster and thought a CF faceplate would look pretty sick, just like the CTR ones. So I thought up an idea of making one with the stock faceplate.

All I need was my cluster, Carbon Fiber Sticky Sheet Roll which is like $6.99 at an auto store. A razor and some scissors.

Took off the faceplate and the clear signal displays.

Taped down a long enough sheet of the Carbon Fiber Sticky Sheet to a desk since it keeps rolling up and outlined 3/4 of the cluster and then cut out the design.

Then peeled off the sticky side and slowly placed the cut out design on the faceplate. And then with the razor, sliced off the excess edges of the RPM and MPH wholes and the signal display holes.

Then repeated the same step for the rest of the faceplate.

Put it back on and results were pleasing. You can probably buy a CF faceplate for like $50 shipped but meh $10 and some patience and boredness can make you a decent one.

i have one of those Dry CF bezels that i bought while in Japan but i have been able to afford the gauge cluster i want...

good job on the DIY.

i would have liked to see the weave go from left to right instead of up and down though...

the way the fake carbon fiber comes in a sheet of 6in by 6ft, with the pattern going diagonally means it would have been much more work, with the sheet being cut into strips (ie, more lines of the pattern not matching up) to get the pattern to go horizontally.

yea I did this on that CRV cluster I had. but the 2nd cluster I did by cutting out a size long enough for the cluster and flipped the bezel over and outlined where the maintenance button would be and then cut out the small box, then layed it on the bezel and continue the same process of the DIY.
