Track vs Street Racing

ok its quarter of 3 in the am, im bored and im watching street racing and track vids so i figured id give my input and get every1's feel for it...

*quick add, ive recently attended to american le mans, last one in limerock ct, and it made me loose all taste for the drag strip*

anyways, ive always loved drag, ive been to the track a million times and last year was my 2nd time in 2 years participating in it. i ran a 15.28 with my si with simple bolt ons, and last year i ran a 12.72, 12.89, best run was a 12.68 with my si being boosted (and i caught no traction) i loved the feeling of lining up at the tree, but i feel like for me, the drag strip is all about numbers that are used to determine how good of a car you have. i also feel that when i ran it was a good feeling but i couldnt stop thinking before i got up to the line that im just another car waiting to be shoved out of line to get the other cars behind me moving...and that sux, the only people that get rep are the regulars who are in the 10's and lower...ive decided to enter nopi's street class aug4th and hopefully my gsx (surprise) shud be running high 11's which in the street tire class shud put me in the semi's at least.

onto the street: no matter how much you hate street racing, lets face it, its been going on since the 30's and millions of people around the world do it everyday! i hate to see kids racing, or wanting to race when theres traffic or roads that have traffic, and some of the meets out here and in new haven are good about it, we meet up around 12...talk till 1am and then start getting it started...over here we use a 3line very wide highway (495) which after 11pm is dead, so at one theres NOTHING and we use a stip behind the supermarket which isnt even a road....theres every kind of car u could think of so highway is ussually only used when sum of the guys want a highway race or a 40-60mph starting roll etc....the feeling tho of racing on the "street" is 100times to me better then the track...1. its illegal so your adreanline is going cuz u know you could get fucked, and 2 when you step up and say i want to race, you become the main event...every eye is on you...at the track i wont even bother looking at cars or their times...but the st its all eyes on you! i love that, makes me drive better, and it lets me know what kind of driver i am becuz people worry about technical error at the track...reation time, et, trap speed, 60ft etc...another thing i love about the street is the closeness of you and the car you race, i love that because wether it b on the highway or from a dig its so nice to hear the sounds of your engines screaming in your ear...i raced with my buddy in his s4 against an e46, and hearing those cars rev while doing 140mph was unbelievable...

in short id say keep it safe, the street is exciting but its very uneccessary if your endagering innocent bi standards...if you get more excitment at the track then by all means go for it...wat do you guys think?

Just by reading the title and not reading your post I am going to tell you what I and mostly everyone else thinks of street racing. Keep it on the track...

I use to street race all the time until the tickets started amounting up .. Bringing out my 10 second Integra onto the streets and beating Corvette z06's is still being talked about over a year later, But it definatly cost alot of money, time and ended up the reason my car got stolen .. My current car is setup for road race/daily driving and I just love hugging turns in a Honda and it feels much better than going fast on the streets . And the fact I can take my car to a road race course and not only a drag strip is fucking awesome .

I think all those guys that get together in a large group and scream "yo yo yo" at eachother are a bunch of fags that race on the street because when they go to the track they get their ego's hurt by people that really can drive well.

All i ever hear at the track from these homos is " yo yo yo, im so more consistant on the street" Shut the fuck up and learn how to be consistant at the track.

I will admitt though. While i hate the pre-aranged street races, theres something pure about accidentaly running into a mustang or something, and getting the red light next to him.

well i dont know about the yo yo yo stuff but we just meet up to be a group of guys that admire cars, and talk about what we've done and where were going with them. theres everything out here, and its nice to see cars in action you wouldnt normally get a chnace to. im not about being a street racing thug or any of that i just love the like you sed the "purness" about it....i mean thats wat its about, the track isnt open 24/7 so if you got an itch people race on the street, like i sed the downside to it is safety. but in some respects when your crusing on the highway and you slowly see a stang creep next to you theres no better feeling then the downshift the go and the kill. hell its why this forum has a section for it right?

i never was really into drag racing (on the track or on the street) yea its fun and all but i see it more of a contest of who spends the most money on a car and not nearly as much skill as it takes to push your car to the limit in almost every aspect on a course (like autoX or track racing), i will say that it is a quick adrenaline rush for the feeling of seeing a car creep up to you and then you just smoke him on the street. but the adrenaline rush and feeling keeps going on a course for alot longer and requires more skill than money, screeching tires matched with the engine revving near redline and watching as you slowly destroy a car on the turns that should own you normally, thats what does it for me... all in all if you like street racing go for it i just hope you realize that you can mess up your life alot faster than if you were to do it legit (such as theft, tickets, injury of yourself or someone else, and wrecking)

there is nothing better in the world than the look on their faces when you smoke the shit out of them, did it to a guy in an m3 couple of weeks ago he was furious he wanted to go again and i smoked him again and he did the worst ricer flyby i have ever seen afterwards....... even though i'm not a drag race kinda guy anymore cause to me its kinda sensless wow you can cover the 1/4 mile in 12 seconds or less yaaaayyy...... not that i'm taking away from the skill thats involved reaction times and 60' are hard to perfect and it takes time and experience road racing is ok too but i just enjoy driving my car knowing that i put it together i planned it out and made it happen. i dunno maybe i'm the only one who feels this way but when i drive my hatch i just have fun doesn't matter if i'm going to go get cigarettes at 711 or i'm going for a 3 hr ride

guys its not like im out there racing evrynight...im not, my cars in the shop being built...we meet up maybe 2 cars max will go at it, and then the nights over...its not as organized and planned as your making it seem. plus i was talking about the self ecnounters you might have with other cars on the road..imo if your gunna spend the time and money to make your car fast then you shudnt be afraid to use it

I'm not gona sit here and say I've never ran on the street, we have all done it sometime in our life. But I've really learned to appreciate spirit driving on some backroad, as opposed to racing someone in traffic, which is just plain stupid.

I hate organized races on the street, makes me feel super paranoid. I used to go out to the local meets, alot of my friends set up races with other kids, it's all fun and games until someone gets busted for illgeal street racing. For some reason, I enjoy running down the track way more. You can go all out there, and you won't get in trouble for it.

definitely more exciting to watch racing on the streets, but as long as there are no traffic or innocent bystanders nearby, it definitely is fun to watch.

Alot of us come from Street Racing Backgorunds im not gonna lie I used to street race my B16 EF every weekend but that was when I was young and dumb but after a while you mature out of that or pretty much grew out of it now im 20 years old I have a stable job and I drive a nice car that im building for road racing which I really want to do when I move to cali anyways when you watch drag racing on the street like allmotorking said is really fun your adrenaline is pumping, your paranoid and you dont know whats gonna happen cause is a uncontrolled enviroment at the track you can sit there have a good time and you can even bring the family so in other word what im trying to say is that is safer at the track for you your way of life (job, career, family) and everybody else...... Keep at the Track...
