Looking at your oil is not a good way to judge it's condition. The only good way is to take a sample and send it out to have it tested. This analysis will tell you how many miles are left in the oil, what's in it (say, how much antifreeze or fuel has contaminated your oil) ect.
Simply put if you look at oil and see it's black, that just means it's doing one of it's jobs of keeping the motor clean. I wouldn't say there's a "bad" fully synthetic oil anyway, just some are better than others. All are much better than any conventional oil. I do think Castrol is better than Mobil1, but you should run each one of the same weight for 5000 miles or so and have each one tested. But the BEST synthetics start out as far from conventional as possible, as far as base stock. Amsoil, Redline, and Eneos are all very good. I'm an Amsoil user personally. |
