Planning ono buying a "NEW" car..need opinins: s2k, SC300, CR-X

A bit lengthy, but I really need some opinions.

So this spring I will be in the market for a "new" car. My budget is going to be around 15k + or -. Over the years I have fallen in love with alot of cars and this will be a graduation gift to myself. I'm just trying to think a few months ahead (cuz its fun) and I need some insight in to what would be the best choice. Opinions encouraged.

My current wish list in no particular order.

1. S2000 - Prices have dropped a lot now that they have been around for 9-10 years. Lately I've been seeing early year S2000s with around 50-60k miles for as low as maybe $12k-$15k. All I'd do as far as mods is I/H/E, Hard top, suspension and Wheels over the span of about a year after I buy the actual car and call it a day. As far as insurance goes, I'm 22, but it will be under my parents til i'm 25.

2. Lexus SC300 (92-95) - These don't seem to be in as much demand as the hondas and prices seem to reflect that. After scrolling craigslist for the past few months, it looks like you can pick one up with a decent body around $4-5k. With my $15k budget, I'd have money to spare to do a 1jzgte (cheaper than 2jzgte) swap. With any left over money I'd use to just do suspension/wheels/turbo - pretty much as far as it will take me til I meet my budget.

3.CR-X (90-91) - I've had 4 EFs, 2 being CR-Xs and the CR-X was my first car when I was 16 (so I have more of a sentimental feeling toward this car). Since I could pick up a pretty decent shell for bout $3k, this would give me room for ALOT of mods. Possibly k20/suspension the whole deal.

Things to note:
I live in IL so even though we do have snow/salt I still own my del sol AND a Nissan Pathfinder for the snow. For the CR-X and SC300, they will never have to be inspected or go through emissions since they are 1995 and below, so I can do whatever setup I want.

Well there it is. If you guys could give me some insight/opinions that would be great.
Thanks

-Mike

Well it comes down to goals and what you want to use the car for.

Of the options I am leaning more towards the S2000

I LOVE the CRX...owned one...but at this stage in the game you have to set aside time/money for a ground up restoration/upgrade...if you WANT that then the CRX is an AMAZING little car.

The flip side is the S2000 feels newer, is newer and you will be tweaking things on an already amazing car. Boost it on stock block and have some fun.

You cant really go wrong with either Honda...the Toy...I stay away but they are also nice rides...

You can always build all three

Damn Mike, 15k? That's quite a budget.

Unless you feel your current car isn't worth saving or if you plan on using it as a daily driver, I would just use all the money on it. I don't consider myself fickle with car stuff, so this is the route I would take.

Otherwise, I would go for an S2000 even if it means spending all of that money and then some for one in good shape. I'm sure you wouldn't mind driving it stock for the meantime.

thanks guys.

Kev - Yea Living at home = free rent, free food and all I gotta do is work! Planned on living at home for bout a year after I graduate so I could do this (save up money and finally buying my "dream" car). I'll still be using the del sol til the dirty D-series blows up or something catastrophic happens to the motor/trans. Once that happens it will be swap time = ) but in any case yea, I'll still have it...just wont swap it out until nature takes its course on it.

SergEK - I agree. Not gonna lie, I've been researching on another S2k forum and its pretty much swaying me...but mark my words I WILL have another CR-X in my lifetime...maybe just not now...too much work...i'm in the "now" kind of mode = )

yup! OBD1 and below are exempt cuz IL is being cheap..which actually works in our favor....1996 - present are the only cars that get emissions/inspections

Dude, everyone is selling their DC, EF, EG, and EKs for S2000's. And they are doing it for a damn good reason.

Just get the damn S2000. An AP2 will shit all over a K swapped CRX anyday.
