well im getting my first car within the next 3 months ( i get my license in dec)

and im unsure of which car to get with then the following 4...

eK hatch

Gti Mk3

nissan 240sx

Subaru 2.5rs

now the RS i might not get because of the rarity of the car... and how far they are from jers..

now i know this a mostly honda forum but i need good opinions and facts about the gti and ek

I'd go with the EK or RS. Maintenance on VWs sucks, in my opinion.

Look at screen name...

Of the cars you have listed the EK is by far the easiest to drive/mod/own and will make a great first car.

I owned my "dealership new" EK for 5 years and honestly wish I never sold it. Right now I have my background as a white EK dumped on CCWs, color matched moldings, si lip, CTR rear lip and duckbill

To me THAT is a classic Honda that 20yrs from now will be as pimp as it ever was only with whatever crazy vtec goodness is available then.

For me, EK + H2B = daily sickness

240s are okay...bandwagon...but at least its not a bad bandwagon

AWD = EVO...plain and simple...I hate boxer motors and they cant flow worth a crap...you ever see what it takes for a scoobie motor to make power? Its laughable FP Rainbow turbo, race gas, cams yadda yadda yadda....skip that

GTI....sick looks...no lie....VW though...shred tranmissions...they can make the power with boost but they cant lay it down. LOTS of electrical problems.

Thats my take anyway

Subaru. You'll be happiest knowing it won't get stolen.

I was trying to be nice...

I considered MKIVs when new (2000)

Researched them for a long while when I was sick of Honda rice bois making me look bad (Oh you drive a HONDA!...rice boys DIE!)

I mean they are 3 door hatchbacks...I like 3 door hatchbacks...they are boosted...boost is good

Friend buys one, grenades his tranny, electrical problems up the wazoo...and I said "no thanks"

Jump on the "vortex" and youll see....

I know the appeal of someting "different" is there when your used to seeing Honda after Honda but pop the hood of an MKIII jetta or golf and its likes the poor rent district...like WTF were they thinking.

Plush interiors and nice looks aside...VWs have nothing on Hondas....we make more power, are lighter and our tranmissions hold up better (especially when built)

As a racer/enthusiast that sold me

I worked at VW dealership for a while....I have never seen so many warranty claims in my life lol...I left there and never looked back lol

Apparently the MKIV and MKV heads have ALOT of issues and its common for people to shred entire heads/cams/valvertrain and get new motors

What happens out of warranty? SOL!

There was a kid who had this happen to him a few times and I thought he worked there I saw his car on the lot so much...luckily warrantied but jeez...I didnt think their heads were THAT bad...but sometimes truth is stranger than fiction....

Supposedly they fixed the design and the newer heads dont have this "problem" but...never can tell

Looks pretty good in person.

For the OP, what did you decide?
