The redtop and blacktop S13s do not have the same exact internals.
Most of the blacktop S13 motors were equipped with 54C hardware, which is the same hardware found in the RNN14, aka GTi-R SR, so they're a little better/newer design than the redtop stuff.
Also, stock bottom end redtop motors have seen upwards of 600rwhp without blowing up like you mentioned, with a few more motors making over 500rwhp back in the day during the "stock bottom end power war".
However, I must stress that, while the bottom ends on those motors were stock, their heads were stuff with cams, valve springs, aftermarket intake manifolds, etc. The works. But most importantly, they were tuned by the best SR tuners in the industry, which is why those motors stayed together.
Be warned, a mickey mouse tune will blow your motor up, even at stock boost levels, so don't go around telling everyone SRs suck, because more than likely, it is the tuner who sucks.
