Thinking about this today - THIS is the reason why it took America so long to get the GTR. It seems no matter what, you give an American a performance car and they'll complain when they break it OR when it gets them into trouble.

It's a 480hp performance car - not a Sherman Tank. Drive it like it's indestructible and that shit WILL break. Do you think Ferrari or Lamborghini don't break? Trust me they do. The only difference is people that buy them know 5,000 miles is good expectancy out of their tires and clutches will go at 20,000 with "spirited" driving. If some asshole drove one of those cars as hard as these guys drive their GTR's they would be in the same position with an Italian sports car manufacturer when the trans breaks. I know this for FACT.

GTR owners need to realize their car isn't a Sentra. It's actually strong enough to break shit if you don't respect the laws of physics.

Nissan knows about the problem.
If you kill the transmission due to turning the system off and launching the car too many times, Nissan will not pay for the repairs.

Its an incredible car, but just like anything else that fast, fragile.

Im with you there... all supercars break all the time, but the owners are probably millionars and can afford it. GT-R owners are simply well off people and stuff breaking all the time could be a significant set back... we can treat the GT-R like any other super car performance wise, but because of its price its driven by completely different people, some people may have one as DD and it breaking is terrible and inconvenient... supercars are not DDs.

I don't even know why GTR owners are using launch control so much.

IT'S NOT A FUCKING DRAG RACING SUPERSTAR!

And I doubt going from redlight to redlight in a city requires the use of launch control.

Which really only boils down to these GTR owners trying to show off in front of their friends or whatever, and breaking their shit.

I agree with phunhaus with the Americans being straight up idiots with their cars though. Seriously, this is why Americans always get gibbed on the good cars, because the majority of the people that buy them are straight up fucking idiots that drive them like they stole it, and when it breaks, try to take it in for warranty work. When they get turned down, as they should, they complain, make threads on the interwebs, and then all the fanbois side with the owners, and give the cars a bad name.

If I was a car manufacturer, I'd say "fuck you" to the American market too, when it comes to high performance/straight up sports car, because Americans are the biggest cry babies when it comes to those.

Do dealers inform the buyers that they can't use the launch control repeatedly?

If they do or they don't it's in the owners' manual.

I suppose, but in all the magazines, television programs and online reviews brag about the launch control like it's the greatest thing ever, but never talk about it being fragile.

When you buy a GTR from Nissan, you must sign a waiver about certain maintenance issues. There is a device similar to a black box inside of the GTR that records how the vehicle is being driven. If you blow the transmission by driving like a douche, Nissan will be able to see what caused the breakdown and decide whether or not to pay for repairs.

agreed. I think it's as stupid as someone arguing a ticket because Kia made them a car capable of blazing speeds above 75mph.

Yes Nissan made a car that will allow you to more fun than most others. They shouldn't have to rebuild your car when you destroy it. Even if there comes a day when nissan has to recall transmissions I don't think they should have to give you one when it's proven that abuse caused the damage.

Although I like Nissan's, The fact that they make you sign an 11 page waiver leads me to believe that these type of issues were anticipated. I know two people in chicago that own the 35 and one that has a 34, and the guy's with the 35 said that the only thing you can change on the car without voiding the ENTIRE warrenty is the tires and tinting the windows. So nissan should've designed the tranny better. They can't tell people to drive their "race/sorts car" like its a mini-van cause it'll break. Why buy it, and what's the point?
