Question 92' Subaru Pad Install?

Hey all auto entusiests, I've got a few questions about doing a front brake pad install on a 92' Subaru Legacy w/ 14" wheels. First of all, its my uncle's car so I don't really have any idea what we're actually dealing with here. Anyhow, I guess the pads have been worn for awhile and its more than likely going to be metal on metal. My main question is once I get the wheel off and start taking parts off what are the main "give me a headache" areas going to be or which things might give me any sort of added problem. Also, we're working on a limited budget with this one and only have $ for the new pads so if additional problems possibly exist (rotors I'm sure) is it going to be possible to dance around them temporarily depending on the severity or is just doing the pads a lute point? Any advice on the matter is accepted and appreciated greatly. Thanks and Uncle Ed thanks you also.

changing the pads are pretty straightforward. You will most likely want to machine the rotors when you do the pads if they are worn that badly. I usually just loosen the top bold that holds the caliper to the mount and remove the bottom one. That way you just flip the caliper up away from the rotor, take out the old pads, insert new ones, and flip it back down into position. You may need a big C-clamp to compress the pison in the caliper a lil to get it to fit w/ the new (thicker) pads. Remove the cap from the brake fluid resivour (sp?) in the engine bay if you have to do this.

Make sure you squeeze in the piston, one side at a time...Meaning, don't remove both calipers until you squeeze in one side first...
