st205 designated 3S-GTE in a Celica GT (FF)??

can i get an st204 designated 3S-GTE engine (gt-four engine) and put it in my 94 celica GT (FF drivetrain)?

i'm told i can by a mechanic, as long as they're both S series engine and transmission (running 5S-FE right now with the S series stock tranny)...

but i also talked to one of the japanese guys in my shop (stationed in Iwakuni, Japan), and he said you can't put an AWD engine in a FF car. however, he explained it being because of different drive shafts, and i asked what about hooking the FF driveshaft up to the engine (AWD model car's engine), then he said he wasn't sure...

still an S series engine, and still using the FF drive shaft and transmission (though i might get an LSD FF tranny), would this engine work in my Celica without converting the drivetrain?

Just use your FWD trans. (or one from a MKII MR2) It works, and has been done before.

I believe the transfer case is just bolted on, so you may be able to use the AWD trans, minus the transfer case, and your FWD axles.

but jumping from 130hp to at least 350hp is a big jump, i doubt the tranny, axles, and diffs will hold that kind of power... i'm thinking of going with the e-153 (turbo 91/92 MR2) transmission... not that big of a deal (to my understanding) for putting in a "rear mounting bracket" for the transmission, and the axles and differentials shouldn't be an issue..... what i'm worried about with that, is i hear the intercooler that's on the 3S-GTE (which i hear on the st205 is a good one) wouldn't work for this if i use the e-153...... any ideas??

E-153 transmission with a 3S-GTE engine in a gen6 Celica GT

ok, so if i go with the E-153 transmission linked to the st205 3S-GTE engine in my gen6 Celica GT, i'm aware i'll have to get a "rear mounting bracket" for the transmission to hook it up safely, that doesn't seem like an issue... i'm also aware i'll need the st205 shift cables, which is also not an issue, and as for the axles with differential that's not an issue... but my concern is that i read somewhere that the 3S-GTE intercooler won't work with that transmission on there? i'm also wondering if the 3S-GTE ECU will work considering i'm using an AWD Celica engine and an MR2 transmission...

what would be necessary for this??

I merged your threads. No need for 2.

Use whatever ECU that the engine is. Manual transmissions are not controlled by the ECU, so it doesn't matter.

Why doesn't the Intercooler work? I don't see what could be in the way...

merged threads: not a problem....
ECU: i'm putting on a bigger turbo, and the engine i'm getting has VVTL-i.....
intercooler: i have no idea, but i'm told putting the LSD tranny from a 91/92 MR2 on there requires a different intercooler... i want to stick with water too.......

next issue:

the axles.. once i have the 3S-GTE engine mounted with the E-153 tranny, i'll need axles and a differential.... because of using the E-153 transmission, should i use the E-153 axles? i've read about people doing exactly that, BUT they have an issue where the axle is too narrow where it mounts to the car itself.... is this difficult to fix, or should i get a different axle?

and is it possible to use the st205 axle with the E-153 transmission?

what if i get the st205 (non-LSD) axles, and the MR2 LSD inner stubs to put on there? WOULD that work?

wow.. learn a lot in a few weeks.....

axles: st150 outers on the 93-95 MR2 turbo inner axle portions.. with the cv-housing ring from the stock axles i have (st204). with the carrier bearing and mounting bracket from the MR2 it comes off of...

engine: st205 chassis rated 3S-GTE

tranny: E-153 LSD (93-95 MR2Turbo)
shift linkages and cables have to come from the st205, and the shifter as well unless i go aftermarket.

turbo and intercooler: going with the Borg Warner S252 turbo, and the stock intercooler works with it.

ECU: probably an E-Manage Ultimate

new keyboard for my computer: one that the right shift key doesn't stick this badly....
